The term CHARCUTERIE refers to preparing cured meats, like prosciutto, bacon, salami, etc.

Most people today like casual entertaining..keeping it simple) and when someone says charcuterie they are usually referring to a board filled with meat, cheeses, crackers, nuts, fruits, chocolate vegetables, and dipping sauces or spreads.

When to make a charcuterie board

I find ANY excuse to make big or small charcuterie boards. Sunday afternoon snacking meetings, wine tastings, or holiday entertaining. What about a BREAKFAST charcuterie board? What fun for the whole family !!

Summer is another great time to make these. They are easy to throw together with little to no cooking required and they are just plain Fun!

What You’ll Need

For My BREAKFAST CHARCUTERIE BOARD, I used the following:

small individual quiches, muffins, different fruits, brownies, nuts, bruschetta, etc. You can also make your board with whatever you have on hand. Here are some ideas.

The most important elements of a charcuterie board are meats, cheese, savory accompaniments, sweet accompaniments, and various crackers or breads.

Cheeses: choose a good variety of hard and soft cheeses, and cheese made from different animals (sheep, goat, cow) Always choose at least one cheese familiar to your guest. Add fruits, jellies, etch

Ingredients for Charcuterie boards:

Hard Cheese: cheddar white and orange(swiss, gouda, parmesan, etc.

Soft Cheese: Brie, goat cheese, havarti, burrata, cream cheese with jelly on top(I prefer a jalapeno), blue cheese or gorgonzola, etc.

Meats: Prosciutto, salami, ham, summer sausage

For my BREAKFAST CHARCUTERIE BOARD, I used the following:

Savory Accomplishments: nuts, sweet pickles, olives, cocktail onions, dill pickles, and bruschetta

Savory Dips and Spreads: mustard, hummus, ranch, balsamic, salsa

Sweet Accompaniments: Grapes,(green and red) apples, pears, oranges, berries, (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)

Sweet Spreads: Trader Joe’s has great fig butter, orange marmalade, blackberry jam, etc.

Chocolates: dark-covered nuts, quality dark chocolates

Crackers: A variety of crackers or even sliced baguette or mini toast) different shapes, sizes, salted and unsalted, and flavors. (pita crackers, rosemary crisps from Trader Joe’s)

Pastries, breads, etc.

Kroger, Trader Joe’s, Sam’s, Cosco, Wine Ambassador

Where to Find Boards

Wooden boards to display your “goodies” can be found anywhere! Flee markets on weekends, farmers markets, Goodwill, malls, Amazon, just about anywhere. They can be all different shapes and sizes. Sometimes the fun is finding unique types of boards….keep it simple!

Remember to Keep it Simple!

Keep it simple! Design your boards by who you are serving. Foods people like! Make it colorful!

But what about what to serve to drink?

Well, I recommend a variety of fine wines, a mix of reds, rose, whites, and blends and you can also have a variety of teas, beer, and water if your guests would prefer…remember to have something they like and keep it simple.
