I Want to share my Memorable Fall Getaway to Asheville, NC in the fall of 2022. In the heart of the fall, five newfound friends from our 62+ community embarked on a girls’ trip to Asheville, North Carolina. Having recently sold our Texas homes and moved into apartment living we had quickly bonded as friends. We decided to set out for a memorable adventure in the enchanting landscapes of Asheville.
The Cabin Retreat
Nestled in the mountains, our cabin retreat provided the perfect haven for our fall escape. Surrounded by hues of red and gold, the cozy atmosphere of the cabin became the backdrop for laughter, stories, card games, some wine, and newfound friendships. As the fireplace crackled, we reveled in the warmth of both the fire and the bonds we were forming.
Bear Encounter
One of the things we knew we wanted to do hopefully was to see a real bear in the wild. We noticed a sign at the front of our cabin to “Watch For Bears”. So daily we checked the woods behind the cabin for signs of bears to no avail. We had about given up hope as time for our vacation was quickly running out.
One day our journey to the cabin took an unexpected turn when we encountered a bear family along the route. With a scream for one of the girls “Bears,” we quickly pulled over so we could watch and film the mother bear and two cubs cross the road in front of us. Hearts pounding, we marveled at the majesty of these wild creatures in their natural habitat. The bear encounter became a defining moment, reminding us of the untamed beauty that awaited us in the Asheville mountains.
Exploring Asheville
The beauty of The Biltmore. A day at the Biltmore Estate was a grand affair. From the opulent interiors to the sprawling gardens, the estate whispered tales of a bygone era. Our visit to Biltmore became a shared memory etched in the annals of our friendship. And we were thrilled to see them as they started putting up their Christmas decorations for the upcoming holidays. The Biltmore is known for its beauty during the Christmas holiday decorations.
Asheville’s local shops beckoned, offering unique treasures and souvenirs. From handmade crafts to local delicacies, each store told a story of the vibrant community. We went to craft fairs, a lovely church, museums, and parks.
Our curiosity led us to museums that unfolded the history and artistry of Asheville. With each exhibit, we delved deeper into the cultural tapestry of this charming city. The Asheville Museum of Science was fascinating, and Thomas Wolf’s home was a Civil War cemetery.
Friendship Flourishing
As we explored Asheville’s wonders, our bonds grew stronger. Laughter echoed through the mountains, and inside jokes were born. The trip became more than a vacation; it was a catalyst for deepening connections and building a shared history.

In the crisp mountain air of Asheville, we found more than fall foliage; we discovered the warmth of friendship and the joy of exploration. Grateful for the memories made, we left Asheville with a newfound appreciation for the beauty of the world and the companionship of kindred spirits.
