Most people would agree that air frying is healthier than frying in oils. You can cut calories by 70% to 80% because of a lot less fat. And it will cut down on some harmful effects of oil frying.

Air Fryers promise the taste, texture, and golden-brown color of oil-fried foods. And without all the fat and calories.

How Do Air Fryer Work?

Air fryers are usually the size of a coffee pot and usually stay on the countertop. You put your food into a slide-out basket. A fan pushes heated air at different temperatures up to 400F around the food in the basket. (you can spray food lightly with oil) . This is similar to convection ovens.

The air cooks the outside of the food first. This creates a crispy brown coating while the inside remains soft, just like deep-frying. The container below the basket catches any grease that drops. Therefore, Air fryers create crispy, chewy foods without all the oils.

What Can You Cook in an Air Fryer?

An air fryer can cook pretty much anything that you would normally fry in oil, such as Chicken, ( chicken fingers and nuggets), onion rings, French fries, fish, cheese sticks, doughnuts, vegetables, etc. All work great in the air fryer. Some models also have baking and toast settings. One downside of many of these devices is their small basket size. Sometimes you have to do multiple batches to have a family meal size.

Air Fried Sweet Potato Chips (or any vegetable chip…)

Cut potatoes into thin rounds using either a knife or slicer

Soak sliced potatoes in a bowl of cold water for 1-3 hours. Do the same for air fryer potato fries, this removes starch to make them perfectly crispy.

Preheat the air fryer to 300 degrees. Drain and pat dry potatoes. Add to a bowl, then drizzle with vegetable oil (just about 1 teaspoon per pound) and add a pinch of salt.

Add potatoes to your air fryer, and spread out in a single layer as possible. Cook for 20-30 minutes, shaking the basket a few times during cooking to evenly cook.

Buttermilk Fried Mushrooms

With oyster mushrooms and a crunchy coating, it tastes just like fried chicken !!

Briefly marinate the oyster mushrooms in buttermilk to infuse them with a tangy flavor.

Bread them in a flour and spice mixture (your choice of spices) plus more buttermilk

Dip the oyster in buttermilk then into the flour and spice mixture. Shake off excess then repeat this once more for a nice thick coating. The shape and texture of the oyster mushrooms help lots of flour and spice to cling to the surface. This gives it more crispiness.

Reuben Sandwich in Air Fryer

Serves 2

Ingredients :
4 slices rye bread 10 slices corned beef 3 T of sauerkraut (with caraway seeds) 4 T Thousand Island dressing 4 slices of Swiss cheese Butter-flavored cooking spray

Directions :
1. Spray the outer sides of each slice of rye bread. 2. Arrange the corned beef on 2 of the slices of rye bread. Evenly spread sauerkraut on top of the corned beef and drizzle on Thousand Island dressing. 3. Top the sauerkraut and dressing with Swiss cheese. Top with other rye bread. 4. Carefully place sandwiches in the Basket. 5. Set at 400°F for 4 minutes flip sandwiches over and cook for an additional 4 minutes.
