I want to share my personal experiences with the struggles and frustrations of finding small dog daycare locations. Most daycare centers are geared toward larger dogs, leaving small dog owners with few options. Many people are unaware that there is a noticeable shortage of dog daycare locations specifically designed for small dogs. I’ll discuss why there’s a need for more small dog daycares, how they benefit your pets, and the frustration that comes with limited options.

The importance of researching the facility before dropping off your dog and why pet owners need to advocate for more small dog daycare spots in their communities. Join the conversation and share your thoughts!

Why Small Dog Daycare Options Are Hard to Find: A Growing Need for Pet Owners

Small Dogs Deserve Playtime there is a growing need for pet owners to find locations.

Most people do not realize that there aren’t a lot of day care locations for dogs. Probably especially in small areas of the country. Many people don’t even know they day care for dogs is a thing. While most pet owners are familiar with boarding facilities—especially when they go on vacation—few realize there’s a growing need for places where you can drop off your dog (or pet) for a few hours while you’re at work, shopping, or at a doctor’s appointment. The worst part is that there are a lot more locations for large to mid-size dogs than there are for small dogs.

Health Requirements for Doggie Daycare

There are requirements for health documentation for all locations, you have to show and keep up your records all updated. There are rules like you can’t come to camp for 24-48 hours after shots or medical treatment.

Small Dogs Deserve Playtime Too: The Lack of Daycare for Small Breeds

Small Dog Daycare are in short supply. When I was work full time I used to take my small dogs at least 3 times a week so they were not in the house alone all day and to get them accustomed to being around other dogs. Sometimes mine would play and sometimes they just would watch the other dogs play from the top of one of the pieces of play equiipment, floor or mats. Another great thing is that is that if you use the same location for camp days the staff becomes family to them and your pet looks forward to the days they get to go to camp.

My daughter’s bull dog “Shammie” pouts if he doesn’t get to go at least 2x per week and often he does not want to go home and shows it! where he goes (which other locations do too) have cameras so you can get the app for your phone and tune in during the day to watch your pet. They also have special pictures taken during the day often they will send to you.

Frustrations of Finding Small Dog Daycare…Why Your ‘Littles’ Needs a Place to Play

My issue is that a lot of locations especially the smaller more private locations seem to be just for large to mid-size dogs, not the “littles”. That seems so unfair to me. Why can’t they have two or even three play areas for the different size pets?

In the past 4 years I moved to two different areas where there are no small dog camps. One city didn’t have ANY camps only boarding locations. (and this town was a college town so getting staff should not have been an issue for them to start one) And to make it even worse they built a new store in a thriving location and did not offer boarding or camps just hospital. They really missed the boat with that as so many especially small dog owners would use their business!!!! In the other area they have several large dog only camps.

If I want to take my fur babies to camp it takes me a full hour round trip to take her there and come back home…so, I try to take her on days I will be in that area for more than 3 -5 hours rather than be in traffic for an hour dead stopped because of construction. trains and/or just growth to the area.

Insurance for Your Pets

Another issue many people don’t realize is that in todays world pet insurance has become as popular as hunan pet insurance. And the best part is that the rates for pet insurance since I bought my first pet insurance have become very reasonable. These are amazing break-thru products for our pets. Designed specifically them have a better, fuller, happier life. Our pets are part of the family. A Call for More Options

So, if you are like me and are wishing for more locations for pet day camps tell the locations you board, your vetenarians, and frangizes where you buy your dog products. Maybe someone will get the hit !

Why Do Dog Farts Smell So Bad?

Here’s another thing that I often worry about with my pet. You know what I mean, those sudden smells that can clear a room. “Farts. Passing gas. Breaking wind.” Or whatever you call it. Well if you are like me and you own dogs you know it happens and at the most random times or locations. Often guests are in the home, right? Well there are now products on the market that can help with this issue. Check with Amazon, Chewy’s, Petsmart, Petco and other locations where you buy your pet supplies.

You can always enlist the help of your trusted veterinarian if your dog’s farts are becoming a big, stinky problem. Most likely, a few small lifestyle changes will be all you need to rid your home of dog farts—well, some of them—for good

In Conclusion:

The real frustration comes from the fact that small dog owners don’t have enough options. There are camps out there but most just don’t cater to small dogs . Mid-size and small dogs need to be together not in with big dogs. And truthfully I wish they would separate those too. Why can’t pet daycare centers have separate play areas for different-sized dogs? (Yes, some do. But most are still designed for the larger breeds.) That way, small dogs can enjoy the same experiences without fear of being overwhelmed by larger pets. It’s simply unfair that so many places are catering primarily to larger breed

If you’re in a situation like mine, where small dog daycare options are few and far between, I encourage you to speak up. Let your local veterinary clinics, pet product stores, and boarding facilities know that there’s a demand for small dog daycare. Maybe, just maybe, someone will listen and take action!

But be sure you do your homework and check out the camp staff and location before dropping your pets off. Do they have an app with a camera so you can watch your “fur babies” during their stay? Do they offer meals or treats, walks, etc. during their stay? I really hope that someone reading this understands my frustration for small dog day camps. You big dogs are so lucky because there are lots of locations for you to run, play and make friends.
