In the heart of the fall of 2022, five newfound friends from our 62+ Senior Independent Community embarked on a girls’ trip to Asheville, North Carolina, for a memorable fall getaway.

Cherokee Indian Chief Redfeather became a famous war chief. Because of my ex-husband’s family connection to this Indian Chief, Redfeather, I wanted my children to know the history. I could see in my father-in-law, Hugh Weatherford, the strong features of the Cherokee Indian in him and his brothers. Cherokee Indian Chief Redfeather was his great-grandfather or maybe great, great-grandfather.

A Girl Scout Troup Like No Other
There was a Girl Scout Troupe like no other. But for me, the one thing that set us apart was a group of 16 girls who started as Brownie Scouts and all 16 went all the way to 12th grade as Girl Scouts. Oh there were a few drop outs during the years but we also filled those vacancies. But the core group remained through the years.
Our Mirical In The Night
Our Miracle In The Night: it was May 7th,1961, in Harrison, Arkansas. A small town in northern Arkansas. There is no evidence apparent to strangers that such a calamity had befallen the town that night. Eighty percent of the businesses and houses had been hit, so practically everyone in the town had been affected. Eighty percent of the town had to rebuild or quit. Four lives and lots of property were lost that night.

There’s something downright magical about getting back in a group of high school classmates. Suddenly, you’re seventeen again, only this time, you’re swapping backpacks for business cards, braces for laugh lines, and crushes for conversations that actually mean something.
Sailing Into Friendship
The anticipation began with a scenic drive down to Galveston, where the air was filled with the promise of another fantastic girls’ trip. The arrival in Galveston was not as planned, as there was an enormous gathering of bikers’ convention going on that weekend.
The Clock
The history of The Clock, located in the Lyric Theater in Harrison, Arkansas (Boone County). The Lyric was built in 1929 as the first cinema in the area to show talking pictures and operated under the same family’s ownership until 1977, though as a franchise of different chains. Why was The Clock so important to have lasted the changing times of The Lyric? And why was it so meaningful to me? Well, it was advertising the Lena Frances Flower and Gift Shop. My parents’ business. Named for Lena Frank Barron and Frankie Cotton. The Cottons were my godparents, and my parents purchased the business from them.
